Adult Illiteracy Outreach Group

Every Sunday, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM, from 01/08/2012 to 05/27/2012

Los Angeles has the highest rate of so-called undereducated adults of any major U.S. metropolitan area. Low-literacy rates reached 65% on the Eastside and 84% in South Los Angeles.  Many residents have trouble reading signs, filling out job applications and understanding utility bills.

We partner with the LA Public Library to tutor adults who cannot read, and hopefully in 2012, we can change the 50% adult drop out rate in literacy programs in LA.  Tutoring times may vary, but every Sunday at 4 pm, the outreach group will meet to prep for tutoring sessions.

Alexandria House Outreach

Every Tuesday, 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM, from 01/03/2012 to 05/29/2012

In Los Angeles, there is a need for 23,968 units of permanent supportive housing for individuals, yet only 2,402 are available.

Alexandria House is a home for women and children who are moving from emergency housing into permanent housing.  About half of the women in the home have been rescued from human trafficking.  27 million people are enslaved in our world and labor trafficking is a major portion of that number and its happening right here at home.

Every Tuesday morning, we do all the grocery shopping for the two houses, community center and day care center.  We also sort items for their weekly community yard sales and assist with various projects.  The outreach is followed by a short Bible study as well.

KidCreative!

Every Tuesday, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Kids are creative!  We have a great opportunity for kids & adults of Oasis to learn skills in the creative arts while discovering how to worship God, serve in His house and become leaders among their peers. If your elementary-age child has the gift of singing, dancing, acting or playing a musical instrument, or would like to learn these skills, this is the place. If you're a creative adult who has a heart for kids, then you belong here too!

What Does KidCREATIVE Do?

Every Tuesday evening, adults and children meet at Oasis to prepare the
creative elements that supplement our Sunday Elementary and Preschool
services. We emphasize good singing technique and spend time learning new
songs, skits, and dance moves. Our Kid Leaders are scheduled to be part of
the singing and drama teams once or twice a month during
the children's services. They’re also encouraged to participate with the praise &
worship team on stage whenever they attend service, even if they’re not on the schedule.

PARENTS!

There are two ongoing connect groups during KidCreative so you have a place to hang out, bulld great relationships with other parents, be encouraged and grow! Married & Single Moms AND Married & Single Dads groups meet exactly at the same time as KidCreative.

Free childcare provided for children ages 0 - 5.

Hope Gardens Outreach

Every Wednesday, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, from 01/04/2012 to 05/29/2012

Los Angeles is the homeless capital of our nation and every week, our team is battling that statistic.  With more than 80,000 sleeping on the streets in LA County, we have a big job to do.

Hope Gardens is a gorgeous facility for elderly women, women and children located in Sylmar.  These women and kids have been rescued off of Skid Row, a notoriously dangerous homeless community in the center of downtown LA.  Every Wednesday night, we organize their stock rooms, assist with various projects and play with the kids so that the moms can attend recovery, therapy and support groups.

The Treasures Outreach group on Thursday afternoons preps gift bags for outreaches, writes letters to donors, sends cards to the girls and assists with various projects.

  3. Connection Cafe' - 30 min time for everyone to come together over food & refreshments to build community with one another along this journery to recovery.

We do offer KidCare to all those who participate in Celebrate Recovery.  The cost is $5 per child for the night.  KidCare opens at 7:00pm and is available until 10pm.  CR participants can take comfort in knowing that their children are being cared for in the same manner of excellence that they are being cared for.

Homeless Teen Outreach

Every Friday, 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM, from 01/06/2012 to 05/25/2012

In Los Angeles County, an estimated 45% of youth who "age out" of the foster care system each year will be emancipated directly onto the streets and into homelessness. Every year, assault, illness, and suicide claim the lives of approximately 5,000 runaway and homeless youth.

Every Friday night, we hit the streets of Hollywood to care for the homeless teens.  Armed with backpacks of water, snacks and information about Oasis, we meet tourists, homeless teens, homeless men and women, as well as community members.

Our message is simple: All are welcome to come home.

More than 50% of our kids today are growing up in single parent homes.  Families on one income in Los Angeles often live paycheck to paycheck.  Due to our economy, many families struggle to provide groceries for their home.  The homeless in our city are also hurting and hungry.

The Oasis Food Pantry exists to care for the members of our church and our local community who are going through a difficult time.  The group meets at 8:30 on Saturday mornings and from 9-10 am, and at all of our weekend services, we provide groceries for those in need.
