GLUE - Disability Ministry to Kids

GLUE - Disability Ministry to kidsGLUE is a ministry for children who have physical and/or developmental challenges.

At Oasis, we believe all children should be included in our Kids experiences, so we’ve created a team of trained volunteer coaches who provide one-on-one assistance to children with unique needs or disabilities, enabling them to fully participate in our Kids experiences. Each child is matched with a volunteer coach to give them the best experience possible for learning about God’s love.

GLUE=Giving, Loving, Understanding, Encouraging. This team is the "glue" that gives uniquely gifted children access to Oasis Kids!

What does a GLUE Coach do?

Coaches offer physical assistance and behavior intervention. They help facilitate communication with others and provide overall assistance to enable the child’s participation in Oasis Kids experiences.

Is any child eligible to receive assistance from GLUE?

Yes, anyone who regularly attends Oasis is eligible for this ministry and no membership is required. Because GLUE is uniquely tailored to the needs of individual children, we offer this ministry on Sundays at 9:30am only.

I would like a GLUE Coach for my child. How do I apply?

For more info please contact Lori Ann Piscioneri, Kids Director, at 818-287-8055 or , or visit her on The City.

How long does the process take?

We try to find a volunteer who matches your child and their specific needs. It may take a week or a month, but we will work with you to find the right person for your child. Our goal is for the volunteer and parent to form a solid partnership that can become a lasting friendship for the child.

What is the training and screening process for GLUE Coaches?

Some of our volunteers have educational and professional experience in child development and disabilities, but this training is not required. However, every volunteer undergoes training, a background check, and a personal interview for the security of our children.

Can my child attend Oasis Kids without having a GLUE Coach?

Whenever either your child is unassigned, or your coach is not available, we encourage families to bring their child into class, but for the safety of all the children, parents should always be prepared to spend time in the classroom or take their child out of service if necessary.

“Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”  Luke 14:12-14
