Vision and Values
Oasis Church Vision Statement
The vision of Oasis is to reach unchurched people and lead them to become compassionate & mature followers of Jesus Christ.
Oasis Core Values
These values are the driving force behind our ministry. How we express our values establishes the culture of our church.
1. Compassion
- Jesus is the example of compassion. He loves and accepts people right where they are and then inspires them to grow in their faith.
- Our compassion is expressed by our love for others – our ‘neighbors’ and the stranger -especially the widow, orphan, homeless and impoverished in our city and around the world.
When Jesus … saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, Mark 6.34 NIV
Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you. James 1:27 NIV
2. The Local Church
- The local church is the hope of the world.
- We demonstrate our dedication to Jesus Christ and the ‘global church’ by our commitment to the local church.
- Our faith is expressed through heartfelt worship and prayer. Our focus is on what ‘we are for’ not what ‘we are against’.
God’s purpose in all this was to use the church to display his wisdom in its rich variety to all the unseen rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was his eternal plan, which he carried out through Christ Jesus our Lord. Eph 3.10-11 NLT
3. Genuine Faith
- Genuine faith is authentic and personal; integrating our beliefs and our lifestyle.
- We do not value meaningless traditions, or just going through the motions in church life.
- Flexibility is crucial, so we can respond to God’s direction & be effective in our desire to honor God.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Mark 12.30 NIV
4. Generosity
- We live with ‘radical generosity’.
- We value generosity because God was generous to us.
You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. 2 Cor 9.11 NIV
5. Excellence
- Excellence honors God and inspires people.
- We always give our best effort …and a little more.
Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:2
Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus. 1 Tim 3.13 NIV
6. Evangelism
- Our focus is to reach the lost and lead them to be mature followers of Jesus.
- We will do whatever it takes to reach people who don’t know Jesus Christ.
- To reach people no one is reaching, we’ll have to do things on one is doing.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.” Luke 19:10 NIV / Mark 16:15 NLV
7. Leadership
- Authentic Leadership is about serving God, serving people and inspiring others to make a difference in the world.
- Leadership is about picking up the ‘towel of service’ not pursuing the titles of authority.
- Effective leadership requires creativity.
- We are focused on ‘Next Generation’– raising tomorrow’s leaders today.
Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. 1 Tim. 4.12 NLT
8. Integrity
- We make decisions that honor God, and strive to have Christ-like character.
- We always ask the question, “What is the honorable thing to do?”
- ‘If we live with integrity nothing else matters. If we don’t live with integrity, nothing else matters.’
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. Prov 11.3 NIV
9. Fun
- We work hard, play regularly and laugh often.
- Nothing is more fun than serving God with people you love!
Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” Psalm 126.2-3 NIV
10. Authentic Community
- We don’t just attend church together – we are ‘doing life together’
- Healthy relationships are the foundation of a fulfilling life.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13.35 NIV
11. Sacrificial Living
- We live in ‘second-mile’ Christianity - representing Christ and serving others.
- We give up things we love for things we love even more. It’s an honor to sacrifice for Christ and His church.
- We are contributors not consumers.
If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Matthew 5.41 NIV
12. Diversity
- We value diversity in church and in life.
- We all have the same value in God’s eyes regardless of race, gender or life status.
There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28 NIV
